From the moment the CO2 has been compressed into a solid form, it slowly begins to revert to it’s original gas form. This process is known as sublimation. NEVER store dry ice in an airtight container as the sublimating dry ice will cause a potentially dangerous build-up of pressure.
Proper storage is essential to ensure that your dry ice lasts as long as possible. We offer a variety of storage cartons which will reduce sublimation rates to between 11% – 30% depending on which storage carton you use. Generally the more dry ice you have in a box then the longer it will last. You want to have as little airspace in the storage container as possible once you have packaged your own product in with the dry ice. You can use old newspaper to fill in the extra airspace, this helps toward reducing sublimation rates.
Our storage cartons are designed to hold anywhere from 3.5kg to 80kg of dry ice. View our storage carton PDF for details and dimensions of the different options available.
