Polar Ice began as a family business established in 1996, with only two employees and a vision to develop the dry ice market in Ireland. Initially manufacturing ‘wet’ ice and importing dry ice from the mainland UK, the company has focused solely on dry ice manufacturing since 2002.
Today, Polar Ice has grown the market by over 800% and employs a team of 18 people. With a dedicated production plant based in the midlands and depots in Dublin, Cork, and Portadown, Polar Ice is the leading manufacturer and supplier of Dry Ice in Ireland.
Alongside dry ice we also offer gel packs and various insulated storage solutions. Both domestic and international customers now have the option to buy dry ice and our other products online.
Manufacturing Expansion and Development
We invested in state of the art manufacturing equipment from CO2 Air, suppliers of dry ice production machinery in Atlanta, Georgia, who have supplied and installed our Pelletizers, Block Presses, Reformer, and Gas Recovery Systems.
An expansion of our manufacturing plant saw the installation of two CO2 storage towers. These storage vessels offer a combined capacity of 100 tonnes of CO2. Polar Ice has a manufacturing capacity of 30 tonnes of dry ice day over five production lines. Our now 12,500 sq. ft. manufacturing facility is centrally located in Portarlington, Co. Laois, with depots in Dublin, Cork, and Armagh.
In 2013, Polar Ice invested in ‘Food Grade’ manufacturing and we are certified to BRC v8 and ISO9001:2019. Consistently achieving the highest grade in our BRC Quality audits, we are the approved dry ice supplier to some of the country’s top food producers and meat processors.
We operate a clean-room manufacturing environment to prevent any physical, chemical, or microbial contaminants in our dry ice. Furthermore, we employ our own quality assurance experts to maintain our exacting standards.
