Disposal of Dry Ice & Packaging
Our outer box sleeves are standard corrugate card, easily recyclable, and our inner insulated boxes are EPS (polystyrene) which can be recycled at over 30 locations across Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Proper Disposal of Dry Ice
If more dry ice has been taken from the container than is needed, it should be returned to the storage box. If this is not possible then the dry ice should be taken to an open, well-ventilated, dry, secure location away from the public, children, and animals.
A smaller quantity of dry ice will sublimate (revert from a solid to a gas) within a number of hours. Larger quantities may take longer. Note that the surrounding ground that comes in contact with the dry ice may become frozen and if water is present, it may become slippery.
EPS Recycling Locations
Much dry ice packaging can be recycled, so when disposing of the packaging please consider the environment. The following companies in Ireland offer polystyrene recycling:
EPS Recycling Uses
There is a general misconception that EPS is not recyclable and environmentally unfriendly. EPS is 100% recyclable and the material is re-processed and used in the following ways:
- Reground and used in insulation boards to improve the energy ratings of buildings and thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Used for the manufacture of pellets for the injection moulded industry.
- Used in the manufacture of products like plastic wood for use in decking and fencing.
Unlike corrugate alternatives, EPS has many unrecognised environmental benefits, please see below (Airpop is the brand name for EPS):
